I joined Google in 2019 to work on user policy and scaled enforcement issues in two of the company's high risk areas: elections and sensitive global events. Google's ad surfaces, including Search, YouTube, and publisher pages, are seen by billions of users everyday. Ensuring the ad ecosystem complies with legal and other obligations is a difficult product, policy, and engineering challenge. I led my team's work on the U.S. 2020 election, including advising senior Google leadership on fairly operationalizing advertiser policies. I also led on COVID-19 initiatives that helped surface critical information on Search like ML-powered identification of legitimate masks and realtime COVID support instructions. I made a difficult decision to leave in 2021, primarily to gain more experience managing a team through the growth phase of a company.
